The history and development of VM Tarm a/s

The company can trace its history back to the post-war years.

1948: "De Danske Mejeriers Maskinfabrik" in Kolding (DDMM) sends Bernhard Lauritsen to Tarm to provide service for the West Jutland dairies.
1962: Over time Bernhard Lauritsen has achieved a good reputation amongst the daires and now wants to be self-employed. Therefore, he founds the company "Vestjysk Mejeriservice" under the auspices of his own.
The company enters into a dealership agreement for DDMM's dairy machinery, and continues to provide service and maintenance to the dairies.
Concurrently with the milk transport from dairyman to dairy going away from tractor wagons and milk buckets to new milk tankers, repair and maintenance of these new vehicles are initiated.
1978: The first own designed milk tanker is constructed and delivered to "Mejeriselskabet Danmark" (MD) - which is today called Arla Foods. Soon after more milk tankers are following.
1980: The ownership of the company passes to the next generation, and Knud Lauritsen is employed as the Managing Director.
1981: The first export order is received: Three milk tankers and trailers for a customer in Norway. The vehicles are to be used for transporting surplus-milk from Southwest Norway to the Oslo-area.
1984: The production of milk tankers grows rapidly, and therefore the original dairy-service activity is sold off. Now the entire focus is on tankers for milk.

The company name is changed to VM Tarm a/s which is based on the words Vestjysk Mejeriservice.
1988: In addition to tankers for milk the range of products is extended also to include other specialities in stainless steel which is now built for transport of f.inst. dangerous goods, fat, liquid waste and beer.
1995: VM Tarm a/s acquires the Grindsted-based company "Dansk Tankvogns Produktion A/S", which builds feed tankers of aluminium.
The activities from this company are moved to Tarm and incorporated into the existing production at VM Tarm a/s.
1997: As a consequence of the development within Danish agriculture with requirements fromt he authorities for handling of liquid manure, the development and production of liquid manure tankers commences.
1999: Requirements from customers regarding special vacuum tankers starts the development and production of vacuum tankers.
2004: Development and production of oil and petrol tankers commences.
2006: The development continues, two neighbouring sites are acquired, and new production halls are built for the growth areas of chemistry and liquid manure.
VM Tarm a/s is growing while the company solidly focuses on high quality as well as being able to fulfil specific customer requirements on the tankers.
